Identity, Perception and Constant Transformation

Turning Faces is a kinetic sculpture that explores the fluidity of identity, perception, and change. Inspired by the concept of Yin-Yang balance and the ever-evolving nature of self-awareness, the piece challenges the idea that identity is fixed.

Concept and Inspiration

Drawing influence from Barbara Hepworth’s organic forms and Anthony Caro’s abstract structures, Turning Faces embodies the shifting nature of human experience. The sculpture’s rotating metal forms symbolize the way people navigate identity, constantly reshaping their sense of self in response to their surroundings.

Material & Symbolism

  • Rotating metal forms signify change, movement, and transformation.

  • Circular elements reflect cycles of perception and self-discovery.

  • Negative space and shadow interplay highlight the unseen aspects of identity.

Interacting with the Work

Unlike static sculptures, Turning Faces allows for physical engagement. As viewers shift its components, they reshape the composition, reinforcing the idea that identity is never fixed but molded by perspective, time, and experience.

This piece invites you to question: Are we in control of our own identities, or are they shaped by the forces around us?
